Greeting: Write a story or poem that starts with the word “hello”.
‘Hello’ he let out an awkward laugh ‘Sorry…I shouldn’t laugh, this isn’t funny, this just…it feels weird. I…uh…I haven’t been since the funeral, I guess I didn’t know what it would be like. Honestly…it’s strange…’ he paused and looked around, alone, the only sound was a slight breeze rustling the leaves above. He turned back to the grave in front of him…
‘I don’t really know what I was expecting…you always see this in the movies, people visiting the graveside of their lost love, you know, they have a conversation, the protagonist then has this realisation that they want to go on living, that the world is ok, that it’s worth staying…’ He reached out and put his hand on the stone in front of him, cold, lifeless. ‘Can you give me that?’
He let out a sigh ‘No…I didn’t think you could…can you even hear me? I don’t feel you here. I sense you sometimes in the flat, I forget for a moment and think you’re in the next room…then I remember…’ he sighed again and shook his head ‘I shouldn’t have come, this was stupid…I…well I guess this is goodbye…’
He quickly wiped the tear that had escaped and was rolling down his cheek.
She watched him turn and walk away, wishing that she could have communicated back, that she could have given him the sign he needed, a reason to go on living. But she couldn’t, she no longer existed, she was but a memory…and she was fading.
